Linux Mint 16 released

It’s taken a little longer than the usual week for the final release of Linux Mint to hit, but with just over a week and a half in the release candidate stage, it’s here. Linux Mint 16, based on Ubuntu 13.10, comes in the standard two main flavours: Cinnamon and MATE. Although this time, Cinnamon tastes a bit different.

The new Cinnamon is excellent

One of the major aspects of this new release is the inclusion of Cinnamon 2.0. This version of Cinnamon has dropped the GNOME base to become a full desktop environment on its own, rather than just being a skin or fork of GNOME. As well as this, Linux Mint 16 has better user management, better edge tiling and snapping, a handful of aesthetic changes and general improvements.

You can read the full list on the release announcement blog. You can also download it straight from the Linux Mint website, and experience how great the new Cinnamon is.
